It’s almost a new month, and that means it’s time to get the budget ready. February is the shortest month of the year. However, nearly all expenses will be about the same. But what about the costs you don’t anticipate? Here are a few examples of unexpected February budget items to consider as you prepare your monthly budget.
Unexpected February Budget Items
Holiday Credit Card Debt
Are you still trying to eliminate debt from the holidays? Maybe you thought the debt would be gone by now? This unexpected budget item is a tough one. Debt elimination should still be a priority in your February household budget. Try this Debt Payoff Calculator to see when your debt will be gone.
Taxes
Hopefully, you will be receiving a tax refund. However, many Americans will have to pay local, state or Federal taxes. This is another unexpected February budget item to keep in mind. Additionally, you will most likely have to pay for software or a tax professional to help you file.
Hair Cuts
It’s a total guess about needing a hair cut. I mention this as a great example of a forgotten expense that can happen a few times throughout the year. Maybe you want to spruce up your look in the next few weeks. Whether you want a simple cut or a nice, salon experience, it always costs money. And don’t forget the tip! Keep all this in mind as you plan for February.
Renewing Your License
Similar to the previous item, renewing your license may or may not be due in February. I just had to renew mine so I thought I would include it. While everyone knows when they need to renew their license by expiration date, it doesn’t mean we remember to budget for it. I paid about $35 for my license renewal.
Valentine’s Day is on everyone’s mind- be sure to include it!
